Rupert Everett - Rupert Everett Apologies For Calling Troops Wimps
British actor Rupert Everett has been forced to apologise after describing soldiers as "wimps" who are "always whining about the dangers of being killed".
In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph, Everett claimed, "It's pathetic. The whole point of being in the army is wanting to get killed."
However, the actor today backtracked and apologised for his comments, especially for talking "flippantly" about torture.
Everett claimed his comments were intended for the "many in this country - and hundreds and thousands of others across the world - who have lost their brothers and sisters, their fathers and mothers to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and all the countless others".
He said he was trying to highlight that "we still go to war, but actually we haven't the stomach for it".
"My flippant and irresponsible behaviour arises from a deep frustration at the fact that we seem to be continually making war, dreaming up new ones, instead of doing everything we can to avoid them," the actor said.
Everett's original comments were published on the day three British soldiers were killed in a suicide attack while out on foot patrol in the Helmand province of Afghanistan.
The deaths took the total number of British personnel killed in Afghanistan since 2001 to 100.

Speed Racer A Wreck On First Lap
Warner Bros.' Speed Racer was barely able to go from zero to 20 -- $20 million,
that is -- and could turn out to become one of the biggest box-office wrecks in history.
Most analysts low-balled their predictions at around $30-40 million, a conservative figure
in itself given industry estimates that it cost as much as $300 million to produce
and market. Warner Bros. estimated that it would actually end up with $20.2 million,
putting it in second place behind Paramount/Marvel Studio's Iron Man, which grossed
$50.5 million in its second week. That extra $200,000 may have been tacked
on in a face-saving effort to put it ahead of What Happens in Vegas, which
opened with an estimated $20 million to place third. Some box office trackers forecast
that Speed Racer might well trade places with Vegas when final figures
are released later today (Monday).
The top ten films for the weekend, according to studio estimates compiled by Media
by Numbers:
1. Iron Man, $50.5 million; 2. Speed Racer, $20.2
million; 3. What Happens in Vegas, $20 million; 4. Made of Honor, $7.6
million; 5. Baby Mama, $5.8 million; 6. Forgetting Sarah Marshall, $3.8
million; 7. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantánamo Bay, $3.2 million;
8. The Forbidden Kingdom, $1.9 million; 9. Nim's Island, $1.3 million.

Sex And The City - Carrie And Co Take Us Number One Spot In Style
The long-awaited Sex and the City film has topped the US box office after its first weekend on release, grabbing the biggest-ever opening for an R-rated comedy.
The spin-off from the HBO series sees Sarah Jessica Parker reprising her role as sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw, with Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall also back on board - though the latter's participation was nearly prevented after contract disputes.
And with US female cinemagoers scheduling group trips to the cinema for the film - 85 per cent of audiences on Friday were female, according to Variety - the romantic comedy has claimed the number one spot across the Atlantic with $55.7 million (£28.3 million) in its opening weekend on release.
Dan Fellman, Warner Studios' president of domestic distribution, said the success of the movie revealed Darren Starr's creation was a "cultural phenomenon".
"What this shows is that given the right project, you can create a frenzy for the female audience, just like we are used to with boys and men," he told Variety.
"Now, I'm waiting for the sequel," he added. "And I think everyone else is too."
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull fell to second but still took a massive $46 million ($23 million) while new horror The Strangers debuted in third with $20.7 million (£10.5 million).
The top ten films at the US box office are:
1 Sex and the City $55.7m (£28.3m)
2 Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - $46m (£23m)
3 The Strangers - $20.7m (£10.7m)
4 Iron Man - $14m (£7m)
5 The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - $13m (£6.6m)
6 What Happens In Vegas
- $6.8m (£3.4m)
7 Baby Mama - $2.2m (£1.1m)
8 Speed Racer - $2.1m (£1.1m)
9 Made of Honour - $2m (£1m)

Girls Aloud To Get Own TV Show?
Girls Aloud are said to be getting their own BBC TV show, following in the footsteps of Lily Allen.
Reports say the girls have been offered more than 500,000 for the series, which will see them earning 20,000 each per episode.
The eight-part series will apparently be called 'An Audience With Girls Aloud', however, a source says "The girls are yet to sign, but they have all agreed to it. They would each be paid GBP20,000 per show. The band is going strong and they all want to commit to it 100 per cent."
An Audience With Girls Aloud will see all five girls interviewing other celebrities.
